ExoWax End Grain Sealer is the essential companion for anyone working with wood. Whether you're
a professional contractor, lumber yard operator, woodturner, or DIY enthusiast, ExoWax protects
your investment from the moment the saw blade makes its cut.
ExoWax is perfect for: Decking end cuts, siding cross cuts, truck flooring,
log cabins, heavy timbers, freshly sawn logs, dimensional lumber, turning blanks, live edge slabs,
and other green or air dried wood components.
For complete wood protection, pair ExoWax End Grain Sealer with ExoShield
Tung Oil Wood Stain. Apply ExoWax to all end grain cuts to prevent checking, then finish
the face and edges with ExoShield for UV protection and lasting beauty. Together, these products
provide comprehensive protection for your decking, siding, and outdoor wood projects.
WHY END GRAIN SEALING MATTERS
Wood loses moisture 10-12 times faster through the end grain than through the face or edges.
This rapid, uneven moisture loss creates internal stresses that lead to end checking—those
unsightly cracks and splits that reduce the value and structural integrity of your wood.
By sealing the end grain immediately after cutting, ExoWax dramatically slows moisture loss,
allowing the wood to dry evenly and preventing up to 90% of end checks. This is especially
critical for high-value hardwoods, turning blanks, and live edge slabs where every inch of
usable material matters.

What is ExoWax used for?
ExoWax End Grain Sealer is used to prevent end checking and drying splits in wood. It's perfect
for decking, siding, truck flooring, log cabins, timbers, freshly sawn logs, lumber, turning
blanks, live edge slabs, and other green or air dried wood components.
How do I apply ExoWax?
Apply ExoWax using a brush, roller, or sprayer until it begins to drip slightly. For optimal
coverage, use a gas engine, electric, or air operated backpack sprayer with a 0.21" / 0.55mm
tip or larger. For logs or timbers larger than 24" in diameter, apply two coats within a 15
minute period.
What is the coverage rate?
ExoWax covers approximately 25 square feet per quart (100 sq ft per gallon), depending on
application method and wood species. Porous woods and rough-cut surfaces will absorb more product.
Is ExoWax safe to use?
Yes, ExoWax contains no toxic or hazardous materials. It is formulated with natural plant-based
polymers and wax. Standard safety precautions include wearing vinyl gloves and eye protection,
and avoiding breathing spray mist.
Can I apply ExoShield over ExoWax?
ExoWax is designed for end grain only. Apply ExoWax to end grain cuts, then use ExoShield on
the face and edges of your wood. Do not apply ExoShield directly over ExoWax-treated surfaces
as the wax may prevent proper penetration.
How should I store ExoWax?
Store ExoWax above 50°F / 10°C to prevent freezing. The formula is freeze stable but
performance is best when stored at moderate temperatures. Clean application equipment with
hot soapy water after use.
When should I apply ExoWax?
Apply ExoWax as soon as possible after cutting. The sooner you seal the end grain, the more
effective the protection. For best results, apply within hours of making fresh cuts.
Does ExoWax work on all wood species?
Yes, ExoWax works on both hardwoods and softwoods, including thermally modified wood like
Ambara®. It's effective on tropical hardwoods (Ipe, Cumaru, Teak, etc.), domestic hardwoods,
and softwoods (Cedar, Pine, Fir, etc.).
