What buyers say

  • Ipe Dining Table Finished with ExoShield Walnut
"We have done numerous projects with Nova's ExoShield Walnut and this is my favorite! This table turned out beautifully. By using off-cuts from our dock, we were able to craft a gorgeous, custom Ipe table for our gazebo eating area. I chose to finish it with Walnut ExoShield to protect it from harsh Canadian winters and hot, bleaching summers. It was so simple to apply and I couldn’t be more thrilled with the outcome!"

Thanks Kristi! We can hardly wait to join you at your lake house. Looks lovely.

  • Pergola with Black Walnut Stained Accents
“After waiting for wood to dry I have completed my staining. We wanted a vivid contrast of colors on our pergola, so we decided to use a combination of the Natural color and the Black Walnut to create the contrast we were looking for. The project turned out exactly how we had imagined. Superb Product!!!!!”

Choosing a color

ExoShield comes in nine standard colors. Pigmented colors carry more UV protection than Clear or Natural, so they hold their look longest on decks, siding and anything else in full sun.

  • Clear has the least UV protection. We do not recommend it for high UV exposure, or for flat surfaces such as decking.
  • Mahogany is deliberately red to add mahogany coloring to dense hardwoods. Red pigments are the most sensitive to UV and will soften fastest.
  • Snow White and Total Eclipse are our newest standard colors. Swatch photography is coming — order a half pint to sample them on your own wood first.

All colors can be mixed to create custom shades. Test a small area first to confirm your method and color choice.

Application: less is more

ExoShield must be wiped down with a rag or towel within 10-30 minutes. If rolling, be sure to dry roll to eliminate pooling. Over-applying is the single most common mistake — the wood should absorb the oil, not wear it.

Before you start

Application technique drives the final color. Read the instructions and warranty details first.
