Batu (Red Balau) Hardwood

Batu, sold interchangeably as Red Balau, is the value leader in durable tropical hardwood. It resembles the rich, classic look of Genuine Mahogany — heartwood ranging from medium red to deep red-brown, with a moderately fine texture and typically interlocked grain — at a Janka hardness around 2,100, which is ample for exterior decking and siding.

Batu carries the widest profile range of any species we mill, which is why it shows up across so much of the catalog. Stocked in Select-and-Better and Standard-and-Better grades:

• S4S eased-edge and grooved deck boards, plus 24-inch deck tiles
• Square-edge trim boards from 1x8 through 1x12, and 2x6/2x8 stock
• Bevel siding, rainscreen, shiplap, and beaded ceiling patterns
• Handrail stock, 2x2 balusters, and bullnose stepping for stair treads
