Shiplap
Shiplap is milled with a rabbeted step along each edge, so adjoining boards overlap in a half-lap joint rather than interlocking like tongue and groove. The overlap sheds water at the seam and lets each board move independently, while the rabbet sets a consistent reveal between courses. That combination — weather-tight but forgiving of seasonal movement — is why shiplap works on exterior walls as readily as on interior ones.
We stock a 1x6 shiplap in Select-and-Better Batu (Red Balau).
Compare the other interlocking patterns: tongue and groove, and the ventilated rainscreen profile.
