The Distinct Beauty of Doju
Doju heartwood displays a distinctive light to dark olive brown coloring with contrasting yellowish-grey or grey brown tones accompanying it. This unique color palette, combined with its straight to very irregular grain patterns and medium to coarse texture, creates a rich visual appeal that stands out among hardwood decking options. The wood's natural low to medium luster adds a subtle elegance to any outdoor space.
As a close cousin to genuine Ipe and widely traded in Europe for many decades, Doju has proven its worth as a premium hardwood decking material. Its natural aging process results in a beautiful silver-grey patina over time when left untreated, or it can be maintained in its original rich golden-brown color through regular oiling or staining.

Environmental Responsibility
Nova's Doju does not have a similar CITES Appendix 2 listing like its cousin Ipe. Although it has been traded alongside Ipe for decades, the supply of Doju is much more concentrated into the Northeast corner of South America. The Doju tree can grow to 140 to 150 feet high while the diameter of its trunk can measure up to 6 feet. The average height and diameter for the Doju tree is 100 feet and 2 to 3 feet, respectively. The tree can typically be found in marsh forests or ridge tops and riverbanks throughout the Lesser Antilles and continental tropical America.
Nova's exclusive supply arrangements allow us to precisely control the resource so as not to over harvest and maintain sustainable sourcing for many years to come. This commitment to environmental stewardship ensures that Doju remains a responsible choice for your decking and siding projects while preserving this valuable hardwood resource for future generations.

and certain to provide a lifetime of beauty.
Doju Decking Installation
When installing your Doju deck, be sure to follow our Installation Guidelines.
Prior to installation, you should keep the raw material in a protected area away from direct sunlight and other weather conditions.
It is equally important to give the material some time to acclimate to the building site in order to prevent warping,
cracking, and general movement of the boards once installed. Doju's superior stability makes it particularly well-suited
for close-to-ground installations and regions with more variable climates.

Keep Your Doju Decking Looking Great
Rich Golden-Brown Color Requires Reapplication of Oil Finish
Doju hardwood decks will maintain their structural integrity as they age. In order to retain the rich golden-brown color of
your Doju deck,
we recommend a high quality penetrating oil finish with ultraviolet inhibitors, such as our own ExoShield Tung Oil finish.
Regular cleaning and reapplication of an oil finish will ensure that your Doju hardwood decking
retains its beauty for many years. If left untreated, Doju will gradually age to a lustrous silver-grey patina.
Doju Hardwood - Sustainable Sourcing, No CITES Listing
Nova's Doju does not have a similar CITES Appendix 2 listing like its cousin Ipe. Although it has been traded alongside Ipe for decades,
the supply of Doju is much more concentrated into the Northeast corner of South America. Our Doju hardwood products are
legally harvested and legally sourced under the US Lacey Act and under the corresponding governmental agency in South America,
using stringent environmental guidelines for sustainability.
Nova's exclusive supply arrangements allow us to precisely control the resource so as not to over harvest and maintain
sustainable sourcing for many years to come. Selective logging practices ensure the long-term viability of Doju forests,
allowing plenty of time for natural regeneration of the forest resource. This commitment to environmental stewardship
ensures that Doju remains a responsible choice for your decking and siding projects.
