Nova's Douglas Fir is full sawn not standard saw — a true 10x14 rough cut. Our Timbers are graded Dense #1 & Better, free of heart center and cut with no wane - about 70% of our material is officially Select Structural. All material is grade stamped. FOHC is preferred because it checks far less than boxed-heart material as it dries. This is a beautiful Timber with a tight ring count. These Timbers are some of the nicest material the Pacific Northwest has to offer - a true old growth, fine grain Douglas Fir.

All our Doug Fir Timbers come through our Forest Grove, Oregon facility so we can check grade and put the material on sticks for air drying. Every unit is horizontally stickered and all the larger size timbers are vertically stickered as well. Air dried lumber is vastly superior to kiln dried because air drying allows the material to give up its moisture slowly and evenly, without stressing the lumber by creating a large core to shell moisture differential. We are happy to arrange final surfacing as required by many of our customers. Nova carries a deep inventory in Timbers in both Oregon and the Hudson Valley in New York state.

Douglas Fir is not sold online. Contact Nova for pricing, current availability and lead time for your next Douglas Fir Timbers project.

Douglas Fir Species Information

Douglas Fir has the highest strength to weight ratio of any wood species. Primarily found in the western US and Canada, Douglas Fir is frequently use for dimension lumber in lower grades, and for interior finish work in upper grades. Douglas Fir clears are renowned for their strength, durability, and ability to stand up to the elements. In addition to its strength, Douglas Fir has rich coloring with the heartwood aging to a dark tan-red color and the sap wood remaining light tan. Vertical grain, clear Douglas Fir is widely considered to be one of the finest materials available for trim, mouldings, doors, windows, exposed beams, ceilings and paneling. Douglas Fir CVG flooring has been used throughout the US since the 1800's and is often found in classic historic homes.
